The Orchestra of Southern Utah is
pleased an announce auditions for their annual Roy L. Halversen Young Artist
Concert, to be held Thursday, April 18, 2013. The Orchestra welcomes auditions by young soloists,
professional musicians and advanced music students from Southern Utah, ages 13
to 25. Soloists and compositions
will be reviewed and up to four will be performed with OSU during the Halversen
concert.
Soloist applicants should choose
one movement of a classical, romantic, or contemporary concerto; two movements
if using a shorter Baroque concerto. Audition pieces must have commercially
available orchestral parts. Contact Dr. Hal Campbell, OSU librarian, at (435)
586-8414 to help identify if orchestra parts are available. OSU will purchase
orchestra parts if available. Any
rental charges are the responsibility of the soloist and rentals are discouraged. The rentals can usually not be
recorded.
All auditions are to be recorded on
a digital CD with accompaniment. The accompaniment is essential; auditions
without accompaniment will not be considered. Audition forms are available
online on the OSU web site at www.orchestraofsouthernutah.org/halversen.
Southern Utah composers, ages 13 to
25, need to provide a score and digital recording of their piece as their
audition entry. Composition
submission forms are available online at www.orchestraofsouthernutah.org/halversen.
Recorded
auditions and compositions are to be submitted along with a $20 non-refundable
audition fee to OSU President Pete Akins no later than 5:00 pm, Friday,
November 2. Mail entries to
Pete Akins, Orchestra of Southern Utah, 2111 N Main St. #1, Cedar City, Utah,
84720. Recordings submitted to anyone other than Akins will not be considered.
Primary
auditions will be judged blind; the recordings will be numbered and judged
without any identification of the person performing.
Six to eight soloist finalists will
be selected from the recordings to audition live for a panel of judges on
Saturday, December 1. Live auditions require a piano accompaniment. Finalists
will be notified by letter as to time and location. Soloists and the composer
selected to perform with OSU will receive a $50 honorarium.
