Guest Soloists for Holiday Magic Concert on Nov. 30, 2023

We are thrilled to have many community musicians and dancers performing with the Orchestra of Southern Utah for the Thursday Holiday Magic Concert.  Tickets at myosu.org Please get tickets in advance to avoid lobby congestion. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Heritage Theatre. Lobby music is from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.

Jordan Sanders hails from Castle Dale, Utah and grew up enjoying the outdoors in the San Rafael Swell and the surrounding areas. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from Southern Utah University and a Masters degree in Music Technology also from SUU. He has sung as a tenor soloist with the Orchestra of Southern Utah in Handel’s Messiah and has performed in a number of operas at Southern Utah University including the roles of Laurie in Mark Adamo’s Little Women and Alfred in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus. He has also been involved in professional theater in the SimonFest in Cedar City. He sings, plays bass, guitar, piano and drums and has recently finished producing his second album of his own music. He has been producing music on his own since 2011 and has been producing music with others in Southern Utah since 2014. He is in two bands in Southern Utah called Apollo’s Army and The 8eez. He has an eclectic taste in music, both in listening and performing and gets to show that with the two bands in which he takes part and in other professional singing opportunities.

OPUS is the premier mixed choral ensemble of Southern Utah University and is under the direction of Dr. Andrew Briggs. Its membership is comprised of both music majors and non-music majors, all of whom bring exceptional talent, musicianship, and professionalism to the ensemble. The group is flexible enough to perform music that is suited for chamber ensembles as well as music that demands substantially more sound and depth of character. The group has toured extensively in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, and Washington and has toured Canada and England as well. They recently performed at the Utah American Choral Director's Association's fall conference and were asked to perform the world premiere of the composition competition winner - "Morning Song" by Clark Lawlor. This summer, OPUS will join with other SUU choir members as they tour Spain and Portugal.

Mercedes Broadwell has been surrounded by music in her home her entire life. Whether she’sperforming with the local community theater, soloing in choir or just karaoke nights at home, Mercedes is happy anytime she is given an opportunity to sing.

Mercedes is a proud graduate of Cedar High school and a former student of Southern Utah University. She is thrilled to be a featured soloist alongside her baby brother Ryder Reber and share the stage with the incredible Orchestra of Southern Utah and both the In Jubilo and Master Singers choirs.


Ryder Reber is only 6 years old but he is no stranger to the stage. He debuted his first duet in SimonFest Theater Company's production of Evita and hasn’t stopped performing since. He loves playing the drums and singing and is so happy to be sharing the stage with his big sister Mercedes.

Nutcracker Dancers will also be performing in the ballet next week at Canyon View High

While not a regularly performing ensemble (yet), the Festival City Brass is a new group of key brass educators and performers in the St. George and Cedar City areas who have assembled for the "just cause" of making the timeless music of JS Bach come to life in the style of the nationally acclaimed Dallas Brass quintet, of which DJ Barraclough has been a long standing member. The composition, My Spirit Be Joyful, is a holiday favorite among brass players worldwide and this group is honored to share it with you here tonight!

Elley White will dance for Greensleeves.  She was born and raised in Las Vegas NV. She began dance classes at age 11 and trained at a small studio Heathers Dance Life where her love for dance began! While continuing training there for about 5 years she trained in areas such as tap, jazz, contemporary and ballet. Moving on into her high school years she trained and was educated at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts. There she was able to pursue a passion for performing and learning from teachers such as Delaney Otjes, Jeneane Huggins and Thomas Disabato.  At LVA she trained heavily in modern styles such as Horton and Graham while also having a strong emphasis in jazz dance. Graduating with an Honors Diploma she then went onto study at Southern Utah University. She is currently Majoring in Dance and Minoring in Arts Administration. At SUU she has been awarded scholarships, such as the Eccles Scholarship for Dance, and has been chosen as the Associate Director for Southern Utah Universities Dance Organization, SUUDO year 2022-2023.  Being granted this position, she had to represent SUU and the dance program in a professional and unique way. She had the responsibility of contacting choreographers/ artists in hopes of bringing their talents to the SUU students, while she also works together with the SUUDO board to ensure productivity and organization. She was recently awarded the CONNECT grant and traveled to NYC to perform at the MODarts Dance collective. In February 2024 she will be traveling to New York to perform in the SoloDuo Dance Festival. She hopes to continue her dance degree learning about the industry and preparing herself for a future in dance performance. Her dreams entail being apart of a dance company and or performing in various freelance works to pursue her passion for the arts!

The Orchestra of Southern Utah Creates a Night of Holiday Magic

After the excitement of last season’s Rock Gold concert, the Orchestra of Southern Utah invites all lovers of music and the holidays to come and enjoy their first ever Holiday Magic concert! Come and enjoy music meant to start the holiday season right, with beloved Christmas carols, familiar favorites, and more. Featuring many special guests, groups, and local artists, including Ryder Reber and Mercedes Broadwell, Jordan Sanders, In Jubilo, and the Master Singers, this performance is sure to be one to remember, and will certainly begin your holiday season the musical way! So join us on November 30, 2023, in the Heritage Center Theater at 7:30 pm, for a wonderful display of holiday music, spirit, and magic.

Throughout the program, audiences will have the opportunity to indulge in the “oldies” of Christmastime, with songs like Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, featuring Jordan Sanders as a soloist, and Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride. In addition to these classic tunes, audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy the true classics, such as excerpts from Pyotor Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker with special guest dancers.
Sabrina Gordon portrays the Sugarplum Fairy. Dance Magic dancers present the Candy Cane- Russian Trepak. The candy cane dancers are Kaylee Atkinson, Rachel Bergeron, Delainey Boudreau, Taylee Harrison, Addalei Henderson, Brooklee Henderson, Quinn Houston, Cora Melling, Sadie Overson, Lila Street, Riyona Vinson, Alia Walker, and Emmy Young.

For fans of the brass section, a Brass Quintet of OSU musicians will perform My Spirit be Joyful. If you want to begin your holiday season with the beauty of music, come and enjoy this and much more at the Orchestra of Southern Utah’s Holiday Magic concert

The concert also includes spiritual classics, like O Come, O Come Emmanuel, arranged by Steve Dunn as well as the popular medley of carols in Christmas Festival. In particular, conductor Carylee Zwang is excited to perform Greensleeves, likely the oldest tune in the program of the evening. “It’s hauntingly beautiful, and I hope it will pull people into its musical tale.” said Zwang, when asked about which piece or song she is most excited to conduct. This particular arrangement, by Matt Riley, will surely be a highlight of the evening!

SideNote, a new Women’s A Cappella Quartet, will provide lobby music before the concert.

Holiday Magic, conducted by Carylee Zwang, will be performed on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 7:30 PM in the Heritage Center Theater. Tickets are currently on sale for advance purchase on our website, www.myosu.org. They will also be available for purchase at the box office for one hour before the show begins, however it is strongly recommended to purchase in advance. Adult tickets are $12, children over 6 years old are $6, and student tickets are $6 with student ID. Please, no babies, as the performance is recorded. Orchestra of Southern Utah season ticket holders are provided with automatic reservations.
