Origins Season Celebrates 30 Years for OSU

Your orchestra celebrates 30 years as an independent non-profit community orchestra this Sept. Our first concert was in the spring of 1988, but we didn't receive our non-profit status until September of 1989.  In celebration we are looking at "Origins" and recreating some of our first concert as the season finale with a Mozart Overture and Dvorak Slavonic Dance featured on our first formal concert.

Although orchestras have performed for many years in Cedar at the schools, university and in cooperation with community musicians it was not until 1988 that the Orchestra of Southern Utah was officially formed.  We have started a new blog: Musical Memories with historical programs: https://historicalosu.blogspot.com/  There are two entries so far with programs from 1988 through 1994.  We will continue to add new entries throughout this banner year.

The Origins season begins in Sept. with three recitals at 21eleven, 2111 North Main on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. for Sept.  10, 17, and 24.  The full symphony season launches on Oct. 10 with music from Ravel and Grofe.  On Nov. 7 we have programmed the popular Frostiana complete with choir as well as a Bloch concerto featuring violist Ling Yu.  The annual Messiah performances are set for December 8 and 9.  The Children's Jubilee will celebrate our Western heritage on February 15.  Final evening concerts are February 20 and April 9.

Season tickets are now available from Rebekah Hughes, OSU Manager at (435) 590-6829 or

Thanks in advance for your support of your orchestra. Special thanks to everyone who participated in the May Soiree.
