Magical Practice in the Park

You are invited to embrace the last of the warm summer air with the Orchestra of Southern Utah at their Practice in the Park. With the magic of rehearsal and an opportunity to try instruments, the practice is perfect for a relaxing evening.

Start off the evening with an instrument petting zoo, hosted by Cedar Music Store & Studio. Try your skills and see what it is like to play instruments like violin, trumpet, flute, and different drums. Children and adults are invited to come at 6 p.m. to experience this unique opportunity.

Following the instrument petting zoo, enjoy a picnic as the orchestra practices Copland’s Hoe Down, Gabriel’s Oboe, and Duke Ellington’s Caravan. The rehearsal is interactive, a way for the audience to understand and connect with the rehearsal process.

The rehearsal will start at 6:45 p.m. and even though the orchestra will be stopping and starting to fix passages, it is fun to understand how the orchestra works to coordinate different lines of music for a cohesive performance. It’s also an informal opportunity to see the instruments up close and personal. Bring a blanket and picnic for a great evening.

If time permits, you may even hear a bit of Beethoven as OSU works ahead for the November concert.
OSU’s first rehearsal of the season is Thursday, August 25, from 6:00-8:45 pm at the Park by the library.

In case of inclement weather, the rehearsal will be moved and closed to the public. For more information, including season tickets, please visit www.myosu.org or call the Orchestra of Southern Utah at (435) 233-8213.
